Macro situation

With 214,000 inhabitants, Erfurt is considered the largest city in Thuringia and one of the state's major centers. The state capital of the Free State of Thuringia has an area of 269.91 km². Historic buildings from the closed Wilhelminian period characterize the cityscape, which, with a population density of 792 inhabitants per km², has a hilly and intensively used agricultural character. The city's high quality of life is primarily attributed to the many shopping opportunities, restaurants, cultural and sports offerings, child-friendliness and good public transport connections.

Erfurt is an important business location with well-known companies that employ around 140,000 people in over 14,000 companies. These are primarily located in the mechanical and plant engineering, horticulture, media and creative industries and the food industry. Well-known companies include Redcoon, Zalando, Computacenter, the Thuringia Media Group, KNV, X-Fab, Siemens, Schuler, Qundis, Ibykus, Melexis and Deutsche Post DHL.

In 2012, there were over 700,000 overnight stays by tourists in Erfurt. The almost 5,000 available hotel beds were mostly occupied by visitors from Germany. The annual Erfurt Christmas Market and the Krämerbrücke Festival, which takes place every summer, represent important core goals. The old synagogue, with over 50,000 visitors per year, is also an important attraction.

Wendenstraße 20-22 is located in the middle of Eugen-Richter-Straße, which is the district's main street, and Steinplatz, the most important transport hub. The theaters, cinemas, shopping centers on Anger, the main train station and the historic old town can be reached via bus lines 15, 20, 50 and trams 1 and 5. In summer, the North Beach is ideal as a swimming lake. The flooded gravel pit is located in the eastern part of Johannesvorstadt. There is also a bakery, a drugstore and a supermarket in the immediate vicinity of Wendenstraße 20-22.
