Macro situation

The state capital of Brandenburg, Potsdam, is located just a few kilometers southwest of Berlin and, with its approximately 180,000 inhabitants, is part of the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region. It is primarily famous for its variety of historic buildings and its long history as the residence of the Prussian kings. Attractions such as the Sanssouci and Cecilienhof Palaces, the New Palace and the Dutch Quarter attract more than half a million overnight guests and numerous day trippers to the city every year. Potsdam is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and, with the Babelsberg Film Studios, is also a UNESCO film city. But the economy of the state capital is also flourishing. Potsdam is now a successful research and service center. Large companies such as VW, Toll Collect, Katjes and software manufacturer Oracle are based in the city on the Havel. Gross domestic product is rising steadily, and with around 160 companies, Potsdam is now even one of Germany's leading biotech locations.
