Babenhausen is located in the district of Darmstadt-Dieburg in the southern part of Hesse. Around 17,000 inhabitants live in the city. The city consists of the districts of Babenhausen (core city), Harpertshausen, Harreshausen, Hergershausen, Langstadt and Sickenhofen. There are numerous educational institutions in the city, such as the three elementary schools, an integrated comprehensive school, a grammar school and a special school. Babenhausen is also well connected in terms of transport. The B26 running through the town ensures quick access to Aschaffenburg (approx. 18 kilometers) and Darmstadt (approx. 30 kilometers). The German Fachwerkstraße continues through Babenhausen. With the train station located in Babenhausen, Mainz, Aschaffenburg and Darmstadt can be reached, among others. The largest employer in the city of Babenhausen is Continental. The automotive supplier employs more than 3,000 people in Babenhausen. Other important employers include Lässig GmbH (production company for products for families with children) and Schumann & Kardt GmbH & Co. KG from the sand and gravel mining sector. There are many historic buildings in the city. These include Babenhausen Castle from the 12th/13th century. The city mill, city wall and the market square with the town hall create a unique flair. With a distance of approx. 45 kilometers to the Frankfurt metropolitan region, Babenhausen is located in the bacon belt of the financial metropolis.
