Macro situation

The district-free city of Kempten is located in the heart of the Allgäu region. With almost 70,000 inhabitants, it is the second-largest city in the Bavarian administrative district of Swabia. The city was already mentioned in ancient documents and is therefore considered one of the oldest cities in Germany. 155 districts subdivide the municipality, which has a total area of 63.28 km². The population density is 1,089 inhabitants per km². Diverse architectural styles such as Gothic, Renaissance, Romanesque, Baroque and their hybrid forms characterize the charm of the historic community. Modern architectural elements, towers and churches characterize the cityscape.
